Free Social Media Scheduling Tools: An Honest Comparison

Meta Business Suite, TikTok Studio, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, Buffer, Metricool, Zoho Social: what each free option really allows, based on official pages as of October 2026.

By the Oposto team · · Comparisons

The best free social media scheduling tools for one or two platforms are often the native ones: Meta Business Suite for Facebook and Instagram, TikTok Studio, LinkedIn, YouTube Studio and Pinterest all let you schedule at no cost. To run several platforms from one calendar, you need a third-party tool with a free plan, such as Buffer, Metricool or Zoho Social, each with its own limits. This comparison lists what each option actually allows, based on official pages read in October 2026.

Can you schedule posts for free without a third-party tool?

Yes, on most platforms. Each one now has its own free scheduler, with different windows and limits. Here's what their help pages say.

What native tools do well

  • They're free and official: no account to connect to an outside service.
  • They give you the platform's creation tools (sounds, effects, filters, depending on the app), even though some features don't work with scheduling, such as collab posts on Instagram.
  • Meta Business Suite covers two platforms at once and has a Planner calendar you can view by week or month.

Where they fall short

  • One tool per platform. With four platforms you're juggling four interfaces and four calendars.
  • Short windows in places: 10 days on TikTok, 29 days for Facebook Page posts, 30 days on Instagram. You can't load up a full quarter in one go.
  • No big picture: nothing shows you that you're posting three times on Tuesday and not at all on Thursday.

For the three ways to schedule on Instagram, see can you schedule a Reel.

How far ahead native tools let you schedule

  • 10 days TikTok Studio, on desktop
  • 29 days Facebook Page posts, in Meta Business Suite
  • 30 days Instagram app, and Pinterest (up to 10 Pins)
  • 3 months LinkedIn, profile and Company Page
Based on the platforms' help pages read in October 2026: you can't load up a full quarter on every platform.

Which third-party tools offer a free plan?

Plenty of schedulers advertise a "free trial"; far fewer have a free plan with no end date. Here's what their pricing pages show, as of October 2026.

Which free scheduler fits your situation?

There's no single winner: the right pick depends on how many platforms you run, how much you post and whether you work alone or with a team.

Your situationSimplest optionWhy
Facebook and Instagram onlyMeta Business SuiteFree, official, two platforms in one calendar

Can you combine free social media scheduling tools?

Yes, and if you won't pay, it's often the most realistic setup. Here's one way to run a brand on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok for free:

  1. Meta Business Suite for Facebook and Instagram, in one Planner.
  2. LinkedIn's native scheduler for your Company Page.
  3. TikTok Studio on desktop, scheduling no more than 10 days out.
  4. A shared spreadsheet or calendar that lists everything, for the big-picture view the native tools don't give you.

The cost isn't money; it's the time spent copying, adapting and double-checking across four interfaces. Track it for a month before deciding whether a paid scheduler, or a tool that also creates the content, would save you more.

A tip for US-based teams: if you post around holidays like Thanksgiving or the Fourth of July, check each tool's time zone setting before you schedule. LinkedIn, for example, says scheduled times are standardized in UTC based on your device's time zone settings, so a laptop set to the wrong zone shifts the post.

What should you check before choosing a free scheduler?

  1. Which platforms the free plan covers, not the tool in general. Metricool, for instance, leaves LinkedIn and X out of its free plan as of October 2026.
  2. The limit you'll hit first: channels, posts scheduled at once, posts per month or users.
  3. Supported formats: Reels, carousels, LinkedIn documents, TikTok videos. A tool can support a platform without supporting every format on it.
  4. What happens when a trial ends: automatic switch to a free plan, or a locked account.
  5. Real publishing: check the tool's documentation to confirm the format you need is published directly, and test with one post before handing it a full month.

Scheduling isn't enough: what about creating the posts?

A scheduler sends out what you've already made, on time. The slow part is untouched: coming up with ideas, writing copy, making visuals, adapting each post to each platform. If that's the time you're short on, batching helps a lot: block half a day each month to write and prep every visual, then schedule it all at once.

Who Oposto fits better

Oposto isn't just a scheduler. It learns your brand from your website (voice, colors, products, audience), generates posts, carousels and short videos with voiceover and captions, places them in a calendar and, once you approve, publishes on schedule to 8 networks (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, X, Pinterest), adapting each post. It fits if your bottleneck is producing the content, not just scheduling it. If your posts are already made and you only need to schedule them on one or two platforms, the native tools or one of the free plans above will do the job. Oposto also has a free plan, no credit card required: try it.
