Yes, you can schedule a TikTok video. Natively, you do it from the web version on a computer: when you upload, you turn on the schedule option and pick a date and time. According to TikTok, a post can be scheduled anywhere from 15 minutes to 10 days ahead. For anything further out, you need a third-party tool that TikTok has approved.
Here is exactly what TikTok documents, the limits worth knowing and how to plan around them. For formats, lengths and platform best practices, our TikTok guide to formats and best practices covers the rest, and our guide to automating social media puts scheduling into a bigger workflow.
How do you schedule a video on TikTok?
TikTok introduced its Video Scheduler on its business blog. The steps it describes:
- Log in at tiktok.com on a computer and open the upload page.
- Upload your video, then add the caption, hashtags, cover image and privacy settings.
- Toggle the schedule option and choose the date and time.
- Confirm with the Schedule button.
The scheduled video then shows up in both the web version and the app. The web upload page now lives inside TikTok Studio.
What are the limits of native scheduling?
| Topic | What TikTok says |
|---|---|
| Lead time | From 15 minutes to 10 days before posting |
| Device | From the web upload page, on a computer |
| Account type | At launch, TikTok limited desktop scheduling to Business accounts; check in TikTok Studio whether the option appears on your account |
| Editing | Once scheduled, the video, caption and time cannot be edited: you have to delete the scheduled post and upload it again |
These rules come from TikTok's announcement (checked in September 2026). TikTok updates its tools often, so if the interface looks different, go by what you see in TikTok Studio.
The last point is the one that bites day to day. Proofread the caption, hashtags and cover before you schedule: a typo caught afterward means starting over.
Can you schedule more than 10 days out?
Not with the native tool. To plan a full month, you need a third-party tool that publishes through TikTok's official API, and TikTok keeps those tools on a short leash:
- Its Content Posting API documentation says the user has to authorize the app to post on their behalf, and that all content posted by an app that has not passed TikTok's audit is restricted to private viewing.
- Its content sharing guidelines require, among other things, showing a preview of the content, letting users pick the privacy setting themselves (with no default value) and not adding promotional watermarks.
In practice, a legitimate tool shows you what is about to go out and leaves the settings in your hands. If a tool keeps posting your videos as private for no reason, it is often a sign it is not (or no longer) approved by TikTok.
Scheduling in TikTok or through a tool
TikTok's native tool
- From 15 minutes to 10 days ahead
- From the web version, on a computer
- No edits afterward: delete and upload again
Third-party tool, through the official API
- More than 10 days out
- You authorize the tool to post on your behalf
- Without TikTok's audit, posts stay private
- Preview shown, privacy picked by you, no promotional watermark
Does scheduling hurt reach?
TikTok does not document any penalty for scheduled videos. What drives distribution is how the people who see a video react to it, not how it was uploaded. Scheduling mostly helps you keep a steady pace. To figure out how much to post, see how often to post on TikTok.
One caution: sounds. A trending sound you add today may have faded in ten days. For content that rides a trend, keep the lead time short.
What time should you schedule for?
TikTok does not publish a best time that works for everyone. Your best source is your own data in the Analytics section of TikTok Studio, which shows when your followers are active. Test two or three time slots for a few weeks and keep the one that works best for your account. The same logic applies on Instagram, where you can also schedule a Reel.
